SMS Power Switch - Appliance Control and Monitor
The Power Executive is used to manage electrical devices with SMS messages in a diverse range of applications. Typical appliances that may be connected to the Power Executive include heating systems, lighting, air-conditioning, defrosters, pumps, motion and inertia sensors, thermostats, and miscellaneous detectors and actuators, etc.
Operation Basics - Control and Monitor Send an SMS to the Power Executive and switch the Appliance under control ON or OFF. Should you forget the Appliance setting, send a query SMS and the Power Executive will issue a responding SMS indicating the ON or OFF status. Working with the TIMER The Appliance may also be managed with the Power Executive's 24 hour segment TIMER. The Timer ON/OFF settings may be modified at any time either from the keypad or SMS. Using the TIMER, automatic and unattended Appliance switching is achieved.
Power Monitor and Energy Savings
A compact and portable alarm system with SMS alert notification is easily configured by connecting the Power Executive to an off-the-shelf PIR (motion sensor). Portable by nature, this alarm may be deployed on a permanent or temporary basis in locations such as the home, a garage, an apartment or office.
Security may be enhanced by connecting the Power Executive to a light unit. Switching a light unit ON/OFF at timely intervals creates a 'lived-in' presence that can deter would be thieves. The Power Executive may also be connected to many existing alarm systems. In this case, an alarm activation signal triggers the Power Executive to send an SMS Alert message to one or more mobile numbers. Connecting to the INPUT signal interface The Power Executive has two (2) independent digital INPUT contacts that are used to monitor peripheral devices. An SMS message may request the status of these contacts at any time. In addition, the Input status is also displayed on the LCD display. While the status of the INPUT contacts is easily obtained, the Power Executive's INPUT MONITOR may be configured to automatically respond to an activation signal on an INPUT contact. The Input Monitor, for example, may be configured to respond to an INPUT activation by sending an SMS alert message to one or more mobile numbers, and/or turning the Appliance ON or OFF, and/or switching one or more of the OUTPUT signal contacts. Connecting to the OUTPUT signal interface The Power Executive has two (2) independent OUTPUT contacts that may be used to activate secondary Appliances. The status of the OUTPUT contacts may be observed on the LCD display and requested via an SMS message. In addition, the signals on the OUTPUT contacts may be set locally from the keypad, remotely by an SMS message, and also automatically in response to events on the Appliance, Power and Input Monitors.
The
Power Executive also issues SMS alerts messages if the Appliance under
control becomes faulty. While the capability of SMS switching offers
convenience, being alerted to the Appliance becoming faulty is an added
bonus that may well afford an opportunity to take remedial action when
necessary.
The User Appliance's power consumption is shown on the Power Executive's front panel LCD display. In addition, it may be queried with an SMS message. Aware of the amount of energy that the Appliance is consuming, together with the capability of SMS ON/OFF and TIMER control, you can now decide how best to manage the Appliance so as to ensure energy is conserved and cost savings are gained.
Detecting and Responding to Mains Power Interruptions
The Power Executive's Mains Monitor may be configured to respond to interruptions to the mains power supply. You can, for example, program the Mains Monitor to issue an SMS alert message if a mains power outage occurs for a continuous period of 25 minutes. The ability to define a power outage time ensures that unnecessary SMS alerts due to shorter power cuts can be avoided. Similarly, the Mains Monitor may be configured to respond to mains power returns. It can, for instance, be programmed to respond after the mains power has returned for a continuous period of 30 minutes by sending an SMS alert, and/or to turn the Appliance ON or OFF, and/or to switch one or more of the OUTPUT signal contacts. Just as with the Appliance fault alert message, knowing when a Mains power interruption occurs offers an opportunity to take corrective action when needed.
